AI COMPASS

In the context of the EU’s digital education transformation, the AI COMPASS project is a significant initiative aimed at strengthening the capacity of teachers and school leaders to apply artificial intelligence (AI) tools in their everyday work.

European Context and Relevance

In the context of the EU’s digital education transformation, the AI COMPASS project is a significant initiative aimed at strengthening the capacity of teachers and school leaders to apply artificial intelligence (AI) tools in their everyday work. The project directly responds to the EU priorities related to digital readiness and reducing teachers’ administrative burden, enabling them to focus on teaching quality and student engagement.

Based on data showing that high school teachers in Europe spend less than half of their working hours on actual teaching, AI COMPASS offers concrete solutions to automate routine administrative tasks.

Objectives and Goals

The main objectives of the project are to:

  • Map the administrative tasks that most burden teachers in partner countries.

  • Develop a methodology and competence framework for AI integration in schools.

  • Create a “Teacher’s Handbook” with practical AI tools, guides, and case studies.

  • Establish a digital training platform – AI Compass Academy – providing teachers with access to learning resources and support.

Target Group

Direct target group:

  • Teachers in secondary education: will benefit from tools that help automate grading, scheduling, planning, and communication tasks.

  • School leaders and administrators: will apply AI to improve school operations and decision-making processes.

Indirect target group:

  • Students: will benefit from more personalized and engaging lessons due to the reduced administrative burden on teachers.

  • Parents: will experience improved communication with schools through automated systems.

Stakeholders:

  • Educational experts and policymakers: will gain access to evidence-based practices for improving school efficiency through AI implementation.

Detailed Activities

  • The project is structured into four key work packages:

    • WP1 – Project Management and Meetings (Lithuania): ensuring coordination, monitoring, and dissemination.

    • WP2 – Teacher’s Handbook and Competence Framework (Serbia): development of methodology, task mapping, and practical AI guides.

    • WP3 – AI Compass Academy (Slovenia): creation of a digital learning platform with interactive training modules.

    • WP4 – Dissemination and Local Activities: “AI Ambassadors” (Türkiye): local workshops, outreach, and evaluation of impact.

Expected Results

The project aims to achieve:

  • Up to 20% reduction in teachers’ administrative workload.

  • Practical, localized AI tools and instructional materials.

  • Improved digital competences and readiness among educators.

  • Multilingual and accessible resources for long-term use.

  • Promotion of inclusion and equity by freeing up time for teachers to support students with special needs.
