ArchiKids – Architecture-Based Learning for Holistic Development

The “ArchiKids” project is an Erasmus+ initiative designed to promote urban literacy and environmental awareness among children aged 8 to 12. Through project-based activities in urban design and digital resources, the project aims to cultivate critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a deeper appreciation for sustainable living in young learners.

European Context and Relevance

The project addresses modern educational challenges by integrating architectural concepts with primary education, encouraging children to consider sustainable development and the impact of urbanization on the environment. Through a hands-on approach, children gain awareness of the importance of environmental protection and develop a sense of responsibility for sustainable development.

Objectives and Goals

The project’s objectives include:

  • Developing urban literacy and sustainable development awareness among primary school children.
  • Encouraging creative thinking and problem-solving skills through an architecture-based learning approach.
  • Providing teachers with innovative educational tools for integrating STEM subjects and environmental education into curricula.

Target Group

The project is primarily aimed at:

  • Primary school teachers who will receive training and resources to apply innovative teaching methods.
  • Primary school students (aged 8–12) who will participate in activities focused on developing spatial awareness and sustainability consciousness.

Detailed Activities

The project consists of several work packages (WPs):

  • WP1 – Project Management and Dissemination: Coordination and distribution of project outcomes.
  • WP2 – Educational Content Development: Creating educational materials in architecture and urbanism for children.
  • WP3 – ArchiKid Play Hub – Online Resources: Developing an online platform with resources and additional tools.
  • WP4 – Exploitation and Multiplier Events: Organizing events to disseminate results and engage the local community.

Expected Results

The project aims to:

  • Develop a teacher’s handbook and competence framework for architecture-based learning.
  • Create an online platform, “ArchiKid Play Hub,” with educational content and tools to support teaching.
  • Ensure a lasting impact through the integration of teaching methods and content into the school system.

Resources and Funding

The project runs from October 2024 to September 2026, funded by the Erasmus+ program KA220 SCH.
